Conversion Station Tutorial

Guide to using the DVD burning capabilities of the conversion station in the Innovation lab.

Conversion Station

Turn On the Devices

Turn on the Samsung television by using the power button on the back of the screen, or by using its remote.
Turn on the Funai VHS/DVD Combo by using the power button on the front left of the device, or by using the remote.

Make sure that when it is done 'waking up', the FUNAI reads 'L2'.

Connect the Hardware

If you want to record from a VHS, simply insert the VHS into the VCR component.

If the device from which you are recording has female RCA ports for output, connect the cable sitting on the desk to them (see below).

If your device has male RCA output, you can connect it to the ports on the front of the VHS/DVD combo.

Press 'DVD'

To ensure that the Funai is set to DVD, press the 'DVD' button on its remote. Or, use the 'SOURCE' button to switch the light to the DVD side.

Insert DVD

Use the 'eject' button on the Funai to open the DVD tray. Place your blank DVD on the tray, and press 'eject' again to close the tray.

Press 'Dubbing' to Set Conversion Mode

Press the 'Dubbing' button, either on the remote or the device, then quickly press 'play' on your media. (NOTE: gif shows pressing play on the VCR. This is appropriate for converting a VHS, but if you are recording from some other device, press that device's play button).

Finishing the DVD

You must let your media play in full. When it is done, press the STOP button on the VCR. If the media exceeds 120 minutes, the DVD will stop automatically when full.

Once your media is done playing, DO NOT REMOVE THE DVD FROM THE TRAY. Instead, press the 'SETUP' button on the FUNAI remote, navigate to 'DVD Menu', and select 'FINALIZE'. This will finalize the burning of the DVD so that it can be played on other devices. It may take a couple minutes.

When this process is complete, the DVD can be removed. Don't forget to label it!
