cHatter Box Help Guide

Learn how to use all the features of the cHatter Box, a soundproof recording studio equipped with microphones, cameras, and livestreaming capabilities

Video Recording on the cHatter Box

The following solutions or apps can be used for video recording on the cHatter Box:

  • Ring light and your phone
  • Photo Booth app
  • OBS Studio software

The boxes below are organized from the easiest use to the most advanced option. Tutorial videos are provided.

Easiest Video Recording

The easiest way to use video in the cHatter Box is to check out the ring light from Circulation and use your own phone. This skips the use of the cHatter Box computer and allows you to use something you're used to recording with. The cHatter Box is then used just as a quiet space to make your video.

To check out the ring light, please visit the Circulation Desk, or see our Tech Me Out page.

Using the Ring Light

After checking out the ring light, you can use the table in the cHatter Box to set up and arrange the it. Simply use the camera app you use to take pictures and videos normally. The file will already be on your phone and you can email it or use a USB cord to transfer it to another device.

Intermediate Video Recording

You may want to use the cHatter Box computer to make a video. Using the Photo Booth app on the Mac computer inside of the cHatter Box will allow you to make a video using the mics and cameras in the cHatter Box. This is best if you want to take a video in one shot, without stopping.

Using the Photo Booth App

The Photo Booth app can be found on the tray on the bottom of the screen of the cHatter Box.

Open the app and click Record a Movie clip on the bottom left, which looks like a video camera. Click the red button at the bottom of the application.

To save this to a flash drive or email it to yourself, you will have to save it. Go to File>>Save. Your flash drive can be plugged into the USB hub below the monitor. Make sure you use the white and silver hub, and not the USB charger in the cHatter Box, which is black. And lastly, don't forget to take your USB drive!

Note: You can use this app to take still images, as well.

Advanced Video Recording

To have even more options for recording, you can use the OBS app. OBS stands for Open Broadcaster Software. It is a powerful tool to add multiple cameras, do picture-in-picture, green screen effects, screen recording, and more.

Using OBS Software

OBS can be found on the tray of the cHatter Box.
