cHatter Box Help Guide

Learn how to use all the features of the cHatter Box, a soundproof recording studio equipped with microphones, cameras, and livestreaming capabilities

Saving your Project - SD Card, USB, and External Devices

There is an internal hard drive on the Mac Studio computer that runs the cHatter Box, but it will be wiped periodically to ensure that space is available for other users. Please make plans to save your files using File>>Save in each of the products outlined in this guide.

USB Hub is provided to connect a flash drive. Please use the white and silver USB hub to the bottom left of the screen on the wall of the cHatter Box.

To save to an SD Card or MicroSD Card, gently place the card into the appropriate slot on the back of the white and silver USB hub. It won't go all the way inside, so don't force it!

Saving Your Work in the cHatter Box Folders

When you use the cHatter Box, you might want to save your project so you can come back to it later. On the MacStudio desktop, you’ll see two folders where you can save your work:

  • Use the “cHatter Box” folder if your project is for a class or for personal use.

  • Use the “Stetson 150” folder if your project is an oral history for the Stetson 150 project.

You can also access the cHatter Box and Stetson 150 folders by using the Finder application.  Finder is located on the left side of the dock next to the Stetson logo.

Once you have opened the Finder program, the left side of the application will contain a list of locations where files can be saved.  Select the location named "chatterbox".

Once selected, you will see both the "cHatterBox" and "Stetson_150" folders. If you have saved your project on the Desktop or another location, you can drag them into the appropriate folder in the Finder.

Important Notes about Saving

Keep in mind that projects saved in the “cHatter Box” or “Stetson 150” folders are not private. Other people using the cHatter Box can see these folders too. They are meant to give everyone a place to save projects for a longer time, but if you need your work to stay private, you should save it to your own USB drive or cloud storage.

If files are ever deleted by mistake (or on purpose), the duPont Library staff will do their best to recover them quickly. Each folder has its own Recycle Bin, which keeps deleted files for 90 days. After that, the files are permanently deleted on the last weekend of each month.

Accessing cHatter Box Storage from the Innovation Lab

If you wish to edit your work, you can always access your work from the Mac systems in the Innovation Lab.  To access files located on the cHatterBox drive, you will need to map to the drive from a Mac in the Innovation Lab.  Follow these steps to map to the cHatter Box drive.

  1. Sign on to a Mac system in the Innovation Lab.
  2. Once logged in, go to the "Go" menu at the top of the screen.
  3. Select "Connect to Server"
  4. Enter: "smb://chatterbox" and click "Connect"
  5. Select the "cHatterBox" drive or the "Stetson_150" drive depending on where your project was saved.

Please Note: Mapping to the "cHatterBox" or "Stetson_150" does not work over the "STETSON_GUEST" wifi.

Editing your Project

The cHatter Box is primarily a capture space, meaning it is meant for people to make the recordings, not edit them. If using OBS Studio, some editing is available in the app. In order to use the Adobe Creative Suite, please visit our Innovation Lab. The digital video editing software Adobe Premier is available for free with a Stetson login.
