Search Strategies

Field Searches
Use the drop down menu to designate where you want to search in the record (title, author, subject, etc.).

On the search results page, you can limit your results to the Source Type (journals, books, etc.) by clicking on a specific type in the left-hand side bar. PsycINFO suggests subject terms along the left-hand side of the results (under Subject or Major Subject Term) which you can substitute or add to your original search term(s).

Search Limiting Options

PsycINFO allows many options to limit your search. The Advanced Search screen shows the options in the bottom portion. Some of the most often used options are indicated below.

  • Apply Related Words—expands your search by including synonyms and plurals of your term.

Many of these same options to limit or focus your results will be available after completing a search; the options appear along the left-hand side of the result list screen.
