Archives and Special Collections

This guide provides a brief overview of Stetson's archival resources and special collections.

The Stetson University Archives & Special Collections

The purpose of Archives & Special Collections, a unit of the duPont-Ball Library, is to safeguard Stetson's history and unique cultural heritage. We collect and provide access to records that document Stetson's past, as well as other unique and/or rare items of historical interest. The collections include papers, books, publications, press clippings, photographs, yearbooks, the campus newspaper, and many other objects and ephemera.

Mission:

To select, preserve, and make accessible an authentic record of the people, programs, and operations of Stetson University, and to provide archival management for records and objects of external Special Collections in support of the teaching, research, administrative, and service interests of Stetson University.

Strategic Goals of the duPont-Ball Library Archives and Special Collections:

-Ensure the physical protection and preservation of the important cultural resources entrusted to the Archives

-Provide broad and effective access of Archives and Special Collections to support study and scholarship by Stetson University students and faculty, as well as by international researchers

-Make the content of Archives and Special Collections readily available to a broad audience through digital technologies

Our office serves Stetson's administration, faculty, staff, students, and alumni, as well as guests from around the world. Many of our holdings are available online through the Stetson Digital Archives, though researchers are welcome to call, email, or visit us in person. The duPont-Ball Library Archives and Special Collections is committed to the ideal of universal web accessibility and strives to provide an accessible web presence that enables all university community members and visitors full access to information provided online. In the event a user encounters content that is not accessible, please contact us through email (archives@stetson.edu) so that we may assist you.

This guide offers a brief overview of our collections, which are divided into two categories: the Stetson Archives, comprised of Stetson-generated content; and Stetson's Special Collections, which include materials produced outside the University.
