Today’s streaming services make many music options instantly available to listeners. They also make it possible to share specific items by providing users with a direct link. These links can be an efficient and effective way to cite listening examples for research projects. The following provides directions for finding these direct links on several streaming platforms so that users can copy them to their computer clipboard. Users can then paste these direct links into another document for later reference.

Sharing from Apple Music

To share a single, song, album or track from Apple Music:

  • Open the Apple Music app from your iPhone or iPad, and find the single or song you wish to share
  • Tap the ellipsis (three dots) button to bring up the action menu.
  • Tap Share Song.../Album to bring up the Share Sheet and see your sharing options

To share songs and Albums from your computer:

  • Open Apple Music app on your Mac or PC.
  • Find the song or album that you want to share.
  • Click the ellipsis (three dots) button to bring up the contextual menu.
  • Hover your mouse pointer over Share Song/Album to see your sharing options.
  • You will then select "copy link" to record the url for that particular song or album.

Sharing from Spotify

Share a Spotify single from a computer:

  • To share a single from Spotify from your computer, tap the 3-dot icon on the right side of the song or track. Tap Share.
  • From the "copy song link," paste the link somewhere you can retrieve it later.

Share a Spotify single or album from a mobile device:

  • Navigate to what you want to share.
  • Tap the three dots. It's at the top for albums and playlists, or next to songs or podcasts..
  • Tap Share and then choose copy link.
  • Paste the link where you can find it later.

Sharing from Bandcamp, Soundcloud and YouTube

Share a Bandcamp album or single:

  • To share an album or single from Bandcamp, find the Send As Gift link under the "buy" information.
  • Then tap the Share/Embed link, and capture the url for your notes.

Share a Soundcloud album or single:

  • In the latest version of the SoundCloud app find the track, profile, album or playlist you want to share.
  • Tap the share icon.
  • Choose "copy link" and store it where you can find it later.

  • To share an album or single from YouTube Music, find the 3 dot (ellipses) for the entire album or for a single.
  • Then tap the Share/Embed link, and navigate to the share menu where you can copy the url.
