Disability laws have been developed to prevent discrimination against people with disabilities in the areas of education, employment, housing, and access to services. The main laws used to guide organizations and protect people against discrimination are:

A number of organizations exist to promote advocacy and awareness of specific types of disabilities and to protect those whose rights have been violated because of a disability. There are state and national organizations committed to serving the needs of people with disabilities. For those living in Florida, a good place to start would be Disability Rights Florida.
