Collections Management in the duPont-Ball Library

Located in the basement of the Library near the north courtyard entrance, the department is responsible for the following:

  • Acquisitions — selecting books, periodicals, and videos the library needs and buying them
  • Cataloging — organizing materials in the library by description and classification
  • Electronic Resources — Managing electronic resources available through the library’s catalog
  • Periodicals — managing the electronic, paper, and microform journals

Summary of FY23 in the Department

Highlights from FY23

  1. The library spent $801,547 on library resources in FY23.  95.2% of the total was spent on electronic resources.
  2. The library added the following databases in FY23:  OverDrive (ebook and audiobook interface).
  3. We continued to reduce the number of print volumes in the circulating collections by evaluation and deaccessioning outdated and unused materials.
  4. The reference print collection was evaluated and a number of volumes were deaccessioned, thus reducing the number of volumes in this collection also.

Department Personnel Changes in FY23

Lauren Westmoreland joined the Collections Management staff as the Acquisitions/Interlibrary Loan Specialist.

Xanthippe Pack-Brown joined the library staff as the Serials Collections Specialist.
