Collections Management in the duPont-Ball Library

Located in the basement of the Library near the north courtyard entrance, the department is responsible for the following:

  • Acquisitions — deciding what books, periodicals, and videos the library needs and buying them
  • Cataloging — organizing materials in the library so that you can find them
  • Electronic Resources — Managing electronic resources available through the library’s catalog
  • Periodicals — managing the electronic, paper, and microform journals

Summary of FY21 in the Department

Highlights from FY21

  1. Library employees (faculty and staff) returned to work in the library building in July 2020 after the university Covid-19 shut down in March 2020.
  2. A national search for a Systems and Website Librarian was reopened in the fall.  The previous search was halted in the spring of 2020 due to Covid-19.  The 2020-2021 search failed.  A new search will be conducted in the fall of 2021.
  3. Library faculty, staff, and student assistants consolidated and streamlined the periodicals section on the main floor.  Over 1,600 bound volumes were withdrawn from the main floor and the ground floor periodicals sections.
  4. The position of Serials Collections Specialist was filled in May 2021.
  5. Six Russian print periodicals titles were replaced with online access in June 2021 in order to streamline the print collection.  
  6. The library spent $799,081 on library resources in FY21.  94.4% of the total was spent on electronic resources, 1.1% higher than in FY20.

Department Personnel Changes in FY21

The Serials Collections Specialist position is now held by Viri Rosas.  Viri joined the library in May 2021.

Suzette Moyer left the position of Electronic Collections Specialist in January 2021. 

Jean Wald retired from her position as Reference Librarian and Music Specialist in July 2020.
