Their charge is to provide a forum to research, monitor, discuss, and address national diversity issues and trends, and to analyze and address the impact of diversity issues and trend on the profession, and the relevance and effectiveness of library leadership, library organizations and library services to an increasingly diverse society.
Research libraries work to advance access to economic and social prosperity, encourage full participation in society, and counter the historical lack of access to material resources about underrepresented human groups in collections that we cultivate and steward. They focus on recruiting into library organizations and developing individuals who identify as people of color, or are from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. They also ensure that our community continues to improve the representation of historically underrepresented, underserved, or marginalized groups in information resources.
Serves as the preeminent voice for diversity officers in higher education by supporting collective efforts to lead institutions toward production and dissemination of empirical evidence through research to inform diversity initiatives, identification and circulation of exemplary practices, providing professional development for diversity officers, informing and influencing national and local policies, and creating and fostering networking opportunities.
Includes sections on International Women's Day, their Diversity Leadership Team, UN HeForShe movement, standing up for LBGTQ+ equality and inclusion, global diversity week, women unbound, and their Human Rights statement.
Provides resources with information about disability and diversity and inclusion in order to foster a culture of diversity — or a capacity to appreciate and value individual differences — in the workplace.
