SensusAccess Accessibility Software: Home

A quick guide on how to use the SensusAccess accessibility software to convert documents into accessible formats.

What Is SensusAccess?

SensusAccess is an assistive technology for document conversion. It can take a variety of input file formats (.DOC, .DOCX, .PDF, .PPT, .PPTX, .TXT, .XML, .HTML, .HTM, .RTF, .EPUB, .MOBI, .TIFF, .TIF, .GIF, .JPG, .JPEG, .BMP, .PNG, .PCX, .DCX, .J2K, .JP2, .JPX, .DJV, .TEX and .ASC) and turn them into accessible output formats such as MP3 audio file, Braille file, E-book, word document or tagged-PDF.

SensusAccess distributes an easy-to-use technology for everyone in the community to use rather than relying on a single office for support. Students can autonomously utilize this software as needed, faculty can quickly convert documents prior to posting on Blackboard/Canvas, and staff can ensure marketing and outreach is accessible for all students.

How To Use SensusAccess

The software is available through this link: Stetson SensusAccess

The page will expand as you complete the required steps. First, select the type of source you wish to convert. If it is a file, you will upload the file to be converted.

Next, you will select the output format you wish to convert the content into. These include automatically generated audio files in either plain MP3 or DAISY formats, Braille text, E-books, and more. This allows you to tailor the output to the specific needs of your audience - or yourself.

For audio output formats, you will then have to specify the language you wish the text to be read in as well as the speed.

Next, you will input your e-mail address to let the service know where to send the converted file. Depending on how long the text to be converted is and which output format you have chosen, it can take several minutes for the conversion to complete.

If the document is successfully submitted, the service will give you a receipt for your request.

Finally, after the conversion is finished you will receive an e-mail from SensusAccess in your inbox with a link to where you can download your converted file!
