Search Alerts

How to set up a database search and have the results emailed to you at regular intervals.

WorldCat Saved Searches

WorldCat is a catalog of library catalogs from all over the world, containing over 1 billion records.

  • WorldCat does not allow search alerts, but it does allow you to save a search so that you can execute the search again whenever you wish.
  • Be sure you’ve logged into My Account before trying to save a search (see screen shots below).
  • Execute the search you want to save.
  • In the grey-background bar about a third of the way down the page that begins with “WorldCat results,” you should see a “Save Search” link.  Click on that link.
  • The “Save Search” link should change to “Saved.”  Your search is now saved so that you can come back to it at a later time and re-launch that same search.

Re-launch a search. When you login at subsequent sessions (through My Account), you should see a tab that says “Previous Searches.”  Click on that tab, and you should see a list of the searches you’ve saved.

  • Re-launch those searches by checking the box to the left of the search you want or you can type the pound sign# and search number on the “Search for” line.  Combine previous searches: example Search for: #2 or #4.
  • When you re-launch a previous search, the new launch searches the entire database again.

Cancel a saved search. Go to "Previous Searches."  Click on “Delete" next to any search you wish to delete.
